Robyn and I have been clients of Jeff Ebsworthy since his firm EKO Financial Services purchased Mackay based firm, Schleger Financial Services in 2005. This period has been a rollercoaster ride for us as equities based investors, travelling from the soaring returns of 2006-07 through the lows of the Global Financial Crisis and onward. Jeff and EKO Financial, has during this period represented for us a stable and realistic source of investment advice, consistently encouraging adherence to our investment strategy with regular reviews to allow for changes in our financial and lifestyle circumstances.

EKO Financial Services is a dynamic firm, not the kind of firm that is happy to invest your funds and sit back year after year passively collecting a fee for doing very little. Jeff and James are clearly working hard to improve investment outcomes and provide value for their clients. They have recently restructured their firm’s investment platform to allow for greater flexibility for clients by providing access to direct shares and exchange traded funds where this is appropriate.

Robyn and I regularly assess the value and quality of the service we are receiving from EKO Financial against what other financial planning firms offer and we are confident that our financial future is being well handled.

It was at an investment evening arranged by our accountants that we first met Jeff Ebsworthy. When introduced to him I thought “what a great handshake”, that was (8,9,10,11?) years ago.

We had a mud map of how we would like to live our future and no real idea how to achieve these goals, at first trying to follow markets, strategies, tax implications, future funding requirements etc for us was a minefield.

Finance through EKO Financial Services for equipment and properties has always been very competitive with quotes from our own contacts, so many times have their quotes beaten ours that we don’t do the comparison any more … and they get to do the paperwork!

Because of our lifestyle EKO Financial have made it as easy as possible to keep up with changing markets and directions by regularly having meetings that are convenient for us, to the extent that in our own home “smoko gatherings”/pumpkin pizzas have become the norm. We get in a huddle with new proposals and plans that Jeff and his Team have researched for our benefit.

Always during these conferences the cost to us of services supplied is tabled and various options are discussed and accepted, more often than not, to our advantage. This means more beans in our bag.

The blokes at EKO Financial have exceeded our expectations and we have always been impressed by their professionalism and have never felt we needed to be looking over their shoulders.

A great result for clients in need

David and Ann Duncan approached us initially after David was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.  They had sought assistance from their existing insurance adviser to process a claim, and were told that the adviser had moved on.  Given the situation, they were in desperate need for some advice and assistance in relation to David’s claim.  David’s illness had forced him to spend time away from work, putting the family business under financial stress.  We reassured David and Ann not only would we manage the claim on their behalf, based on our previous experience with claims and our strong relationship with the insurer, that we would keep them informed every step of the way.   

We firstly gained as much information as we could about David’s condition and their existing insurance policies.  Our immediate priority was to get the claim lodged as quickly as possible following that initial meeting.  Because we took ownership of the claim process, David and Ann were freed up to focus on their business without needing to learn the vagaries of dealing with the various departments involved in an insurance claim.  As per EKO performance standards, updates were provided every couple of days, giving David and Ann a strong sense that their case was being proactively managed.

Fortunately for David his condition was operable and he now has a clean bill of health.  A full Trauma insurance payout was received within two weeks of the claim being lodged.  We were also able to obtain additional payments from the insurer relating to ancillary benefits on the policy. This proved to be a welcome surprise for David and Ann as they otherwise were not aware of these entitlements.  The payout received certainly relieved some financial stress resulting from David’s illness, and helped get the family business back on track.  A new Trauma policy has now been secured for David, and they have recently sought investment and superannuation advice from us.  David and Ann have also referred family members, and a close friend of theirs to EKO for advice.

Excellent investment information

My late husband and I were first introduced to James Kidd at EKO Financial six years ago, and we were most impressed by James and his professional approach to our particular situation. 

Obviously every client has special requirements and James was able to be very flexible and look outside the square to provide us with excellent investment information. Sadly, my husband passed away just on two years ago and I now have to deal with the financial situation by myself .This has been a most difficult time but James has shown compassion, patience and understanding in helping me though this minefield.

I feel very safe and comfortable knowing James is looking after my financial affairs, we talk and meet regularly and enjoy not just a business relationship but I also know James has my best interests at heart and I feel very comfortable knowing that I am being well looked after.
